Farmer Cheated of ₹15 Lakh by Fake ‘Bawaji’ on Pretext of Removing Bad Luck

Gandhinagar
A shocking incident of fraud has come to light in which a farmer was allegedly cheated of ₹15 lakh by two men posing as religious “Bawajis.” The accused reportedly convinced the farmer that he was under the influence of bad luck and demanded money to perform rituals to remove it.
According to the complaint filed with the police, the incident took place near a temple in the rural area of Gandhinagar district. The 50-year-old farmer had gone out to get his mobile number plate repaired when two men approached him and began talking about spiritual matters.
During the conversation, the accused allegedly claimed that the farmer was suffering from severe bad luck and that his life and financial condition would worsen if immediate rituals were not performed. They promised that they could remove the bad influence through special religious practices.
The suspects first gained the farmer’s trust by showing him a fake demonstration involving a lemon and a ₹500 note, convincing him of their “spiritual powers.” Later, they asked him to arrange a large amount of money to complete the ritual.
Believing their claims, the farmer reportedly withdrew money by breaking his fixed deposit and borrowing funds from acquaintances. On July 5, 2025, he handed over ₹15 lakh to the accused in installments.
However, after receiving the money, the suspects allegedly disappeared and stopped answering phone calls. Realizing he had been cheated, the farmer approached the police and filed a complaint.
Police have registered a case and started an investigation. One suspect has reportedly been identified as a resident of Vavpura village in Kutch district, and efforts are underway to trace and arrest the accused.
Authorities have urged citizens to remain cautious and avoid trusting individuals who claim to remove bad luck or solve problems through supernatural rituals.
